Mike Mankenberg, Sun Valley Lodge Director of Nursing, spends his time keeping his residents healthy and happy. Here are his tips for staying well this winter ...
Mike Mankenberg’s tips for staying healthy this flu season
1.
Get a flu vaccine. The sooner the better because
they take two weeks to start working.
2.
Strongly consider getting pneumonia and whooping cough shots.
The pneumonia vaccine can be given anytime during the year and usually one shot
will give you lifelong protection.
3.
Wash your hands frequently. Avoid touching
your eyes, nose or mouth. Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing
or sneezing.
4.
Stay rested and strong. Get plenty of
sleep, be physically active, manage stress, drink plenty of fluids and eat
nutritious foods.
5.
Avoid close contact with people who are sick. If you are
sick, keep your distance from others. If possible, stay at home when you're
sick.
While Lodge residents can get their shots right here on our campus
through an annual clinic visit, Sun City residents can
get flu or pneumonia shots at their doctors’ offices or pharmacies. If you cannot get to your doctor's office, you may want to
consider a local flu shot clinic that accepts your insurance.
