Veterans Benefits Workshops
Sun City, Arizona – Tuesday, February 09, 2010 – Sun Valley Lodge will host two workshops designed to help veterans and their spouses understand the benefits they may be entitled to receive under the Veterans Administration Non-Service Connected Disability Pension program. The workshops will be held on February 16th at 10:00 AM and 1:30 PM.
Marketing Director Mike Kloberdanz says the workshops are “very important to residents in our community. There seems to be a great deal of confusion regarding the qualifications needed to access these pensions and the steps needed to submit an application. We are very excited to be able to help veterans and their spouses negotiate their way through the process.”
The Veterans Administration (VA) Non-Service Connected Disability Pension is designed to provide qualified veterans and their surviving spouses with a tax free pension benefit. This pension benefit which was established in 1952 under Title 38USC, provides a direct tax-free monthly pension to help defray the cost of Long-term care in assisted living or home care.

Healthy Aging Program with Dr. Nieri
Sun City, Arizona – Wednesday, January 20, 2010 – Hospice of Arizona and SVL are again combining efforts to keep our residents and their families well informed and healthy. On February 24th, Dr. Walter Nieri will oversee an interactive discussion promoting optimal aging with Lodge residents and their families. The program will begin at 4:00 PM in our Wriston Lounge.
Dr. Nierie serves as Medical Director for both Sun Valley Lodge and Hospice of Arizona. In addition, he is the Program Director for the Banner Health/St. Joseph’s Geriatric Fellowship Program; a program designed to educate young physicians to become geriatric doctors. And, he is the Director of the Sun Health Research Institute's Center for Healthy Aging in Sun City.
Dr. Nieri is a board member and past president of the Arizona Geriatrics Society. He also was a member of the Governor’s Council on Aging and End of Life.
